Not to be outdone by Hackerspace Charlotte, a art and technology collective based in North Carolina, popular social networking platform Skanz has attempted to build the world’s largest QR code. Just the other day, the team from Hackerspace finished their 10,000 square foot QR code, which is visible from space via satellite imaging. While Hackerspace finished their project before Skanz, the opposing team is sure they will end up with the record breaking code as well as the most popular one, as their code will not simply link to their website.
Gargantuan codes are becoming more common as QR codes become more pertinent to society. Smart phones are showing up everywhere these days, giving marketers an opportunity to leverage mobile technology in an attempt to pique the interest of consumers. QR codes have emerged to become one of the most powerful tools in the world of mobile marketing, gaining acclaim for their ability to provide consumers with a seamless and engaging experience.
Skanz’s code was built at the Wall Stadium Speedway in New Jersey. Like its counterpart in North Carolina, the code is visible from space and can only be scanned from the air. Those that scan the Skanz code, however, have a chance to win two tickets and transportation to an upcoming Jay-Z and Kanye West concert as part of their “Watch The Throne” tour. Even if Skanz does not break the world record, the code is likely to attract more scans than its mammoth counterpart.
