Electronic invites were all the rage when the Internet was still young, but have fallen out of fashion as technology has evolved. Now, sending event invites to friends and family over the Internet has been streamlined by sites like Facebook, but iapps24, a mobile application developer, is looking to make electronic invites more innovative. The company has developed a new app for the iPhone, Android and Blackberry platforms that uses augmented reality to provide invitees detailed directions to the location of events.
Events of any scale can be difficult to plan and execute, especially when you have to help people find their way to a specific location. The new app, called Invitere, seeks to make the whole process somewhat easier on the event coordinator. What makes the app truly shine is the fact that neither the inviter nor the invitee needs to know the exact address of a location. Using a GPS data and augmented reality, the app tracks down a location and provides detailed directions which are overlaid on the real-world environment.
The only drawback to the system is that those receiving and invite from Invitere must have the app installed to make use of the directions. This is mitigated by the app being completely free through the various marketplaces through which it is being offered.
Jay Namboor, Chief Operating Officer of iapps24, says that the application is all about friends and fun, and hopes that augmented reality will enhance that experience.
