One of the most popular pizza chains in the world, Domino’s Pizza, has shown, yet again, how an effective online presence and a well developed mobile app can pay off, as it has just announced its largest day ever for online sales, having taken in more than £1 million worth of food and beverage orders, among which 13 percent were made from smartphones or tablets.

Therefore, on October 8th alone, Domino’s Pizza made £130,000 worth of orders exclusively through its apps for iPhones, iPads and Android devices. These stats represent only the orders made in the United Kingdom.

In January 2011, only three months after the initial release of the iPhone app for the company, the sales made through its website or that app made up 35.8 percent of all of the deliveries in the United Kingdom, which was up by about 8 percent from the figures seen in 2009. The first three months of the iPhone app also represented more than £1 million in orders.

Its Android app was launched in May, and its iPad app came along in August.

The CEO at Domino’s Pizza, Chris Moore, said that “When we launched online ordering just over a decade ago, it was a huge investment, but one that has continued to pay off, year on year.” He made a comparison to demonstrate the difference, saying that 12 years ago, the annual online sales were £100,000. By the year 2000, they’d made it to an annual £1 million, and now that is the amount that they are taking in every day.
