Disney has announced that they will be jumping even further into mobile commerce with their new iPad app that will allow customers to purchase products from their mobile device no matter where or when they want to buy.

The app is quite similar to the website of the company, with functions and a design that resemble one another. This Disney Store app is only the latest in a full strategy of efforts that Disney is making in order to set its place in the m-commerce world. Other elements of this strategy have included mobile partnerships, a mobile website, and SMS programs. Disney has not yet been responding to inquiries made by the press.

CEO Marci Troutman of Atlanta-based Siteminis, which has no affiliation with Disney, but who has expertise in the industry, said that there are many things that determine how important an app will be to a retailer. She went on to explain that “At the very least, a mobile app presence is critical for any retailer to market to the largest reach of consumers.”

The new app brings mobile and commerce together, something that had not yet been accomplished by Disney in its previous mobile efforts. Customers using the app can shop based on product name, category, and price. To use the app to make a purchase, they must first create a Disney account, which will allow them to place items into their shopping cards and then checkout.

The app can also be used to find the nearest Disney store locations, and to view their account history.
