Will the new iQR Code take the spotlight?

QR codes have come a long way since they were created by Japan based Denso Wave – a subsidiary of Toyota – and they have established themselves as the primary tool for mobile marketing. Denso Wave first used the codes to keep track of inventory for Toyota and the codes have spread throughout Japan ever since. They are now used throughout the nation as a medium for just about anything. Nintendo’s new avatar with QR Codes

As QR codes gain popularity all over the world more companies, particularly those that specialize in interactive media, are beginning to make use of them. Gaming companies have been slow to warm up to the codes, but now Nintendo has begun favoring the codes in their latest campaigns for their new 3DS platform. Nintendo introduced the Mii digital avatars for their Wii platform in 2006. Mii’s can be customized to suit a user’s personality through a variety of aesthetic options. Promotional goods with QR Codes

MagiCubes, a promotional goods manufacture, recently added QR Codes to all their products as a way of attracting more customers, and for the current ones to be more actively involved. Developed by PTI Corporation, MagiCubes are 3D advertisements in the form of puzzles that come in various shapes. Restaurant’s graded with QR Codes

The New York City Health Department is considering putting QR codes on restaurant letter grades. The codes will give residents easy access to detailed information about the restaurants’ most recent inspection, as well as a rundown on what the grading system means. The information is already available online via the department’s website, but officials believe that using QR codes will encourage more people to look into the grades. Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced earlier this week plans to implement the codes on building permits and has expressed that he wants to use the codes more prolifically.
