As QR codes continue to soar in popularity, they are inspiring many to find innovative ways to use them. Clock Creative, award-winning brand and commutations specialists based in the UK, have created a code comprised of more than 500 individual chunks of chocolate. The code, which is just over three feet in length, was created for the annual Chocolate Festival held in Ramsbottom, England. The agency wanted to make the event special for their home town by giving it a mobile technology flare.

The code, which is made from small blocks of dark and white chocolate, is fully functional and canned be scanned with any smart phone or mobile device. It links to the festival’s mobile website where visitors can find specials offers from the vendors in attendance.

Clock Creative partnered with local chocolatiers at the Chocolate Café to come up with a way to promote the event. More than 25,000 people from across the nation come to Ramsbottom every year – a crowd that is becoming increasingly tech-savvy – and the two companies wanted to take advantage of emerging mobile technology to engage visitors.

While they are not the first to make a QR code out of chocolate (that honor being held by a design company in Japan), it certainly is the biggest chocolate code ever made.

The QR code will be on a display in a window at the Chocolate Café for the duration of the festival.
