Mobile commerce can make holiday shopping more enjoyable
Canadian consumers may be looking to avoid going to physical stores during the 2013 holiday season, according to a new study from Pollara, which was conducted on behalf of PayPal Canada. The study suggests that mobile commerce has provided a reasonable alternative to traditional shopping experiences. Notably, through mobile shopping consumers would be able to avoid long lines at checkout as well as the other stresses associated with holiday shopping.
Study shows consumers favor mobile platforms
The study suggests that more than half of consumers in Alberta and Ontario with smartphones and tablets are likely to avoid physical stores. Canadians in general feel that shopping from a mobile device will provide them with a more enjoyable and less stressful experience during the holiday season. Mobile commerce platforms allow consumers to shop at any time and from anywhere, and this flexibility may even lead many consumers to finish their holiday shopping significantly ahead of schedule.
Tablets are favored by mobile shoppers
The study suggests that tablets will be the favored device among consumers when it comes to mobile shopping. These devices feature larger screens that allow for better navigation, thereby creating a more favorable experience. Consumers using tablets may be more likely to spend money, as well, as the shopping experience is made somewhat more convenient for them. The survey suggests that consumers in Canada are expected to spend an average of $243 when purchasing gifts from a mobile device.
Mobile commerce continues to have an impact of retail
Mobile commerce has become a powerful force in the retail sector. Many retailers became convinced of the promise that exists in the mobile commerce sector during the 2011 and 2012 holiday season, when mobile sales showed explosive growth in many parts of the world. For much of the past year, retailers have been working to improve their presence in the mobile space, hoping to increase their engagement with consumers that will be using their mobile devices to shop online.
