The new Pingit mobile app from Barclays has been designed to make it easier for consumers to exchange money by sending funds directly to a mobile device into another account.
According to Barclays, the Pingit app is the first banking app of a person-to-person nature that is available in Europe. It allows anyone with a U.K. banking account and a mobile telephone number to send money with just as much ease as sending a text message.
According to the Barclay PLC accounts director, Dan Wass, “This is about recognizing how all of our lives are changing every single day; recognizing that the pace of that change is getting ever quicker.” Wass also added that the reason that this is important is that it offers consumers the largest number of options for the way in which they can do their banking.
He explained that this is a matter of providing new services that will simplify the lives of their customers and assist them with their daily money management.
The app and its use are free to consumers, and it can be used in Android, iPhone, and BlackBerry devices. Currently, as the app is only just newly launched, only the customers at Barclays who already have accounts there will be able to use the app to send money. However, it is possible for anyone with a smartphone or feature phone, and a bank account in the U.K., to be able to receive the funds from those customers.
Barclays anticipates that the updated app will become available early in March for allowing everyone with a bank account in the U.K. to be able to send and receive money.
