Atlantic Records Joins Forces with RedLaser

RedLaser and Atlantic Records Team Up

The music industry has been seeing success with QR codes lately. Using the 2d barcodes, record labels can create a wide variety of promotional content connected to a single code. Though QR codes are usually in the shape of a box, the layout can be made into any desirable shape as long as the pattern is readable and links to a mobile website.

Atlantic records have taken to using the codes for their upcoming releases, allowing customers to pre-order music or albums with a simple scan. The record label has been shrewd in its use, but has decided to use the codes in conjunction with the release of one of their most famous artists.

Collaborating with RedLaser, a developer of advanced scanning software, Lupe Fiasco is preparing to launch his latest album entitled “LASERS.” The album can be pre-ordered only by scanning the QR code on the artists website. Scanning the code with the RedLaser scanner will allow users to listen to bonus content as well as give them access to an exclusive version of the album with additional songs.

The album has been the target of controversy lately as some of the songs featured are politically charged. Atlantic is looking to take advantage of the extra attention by implementing QR codes hoping that more people will see and use them. The performance of the codes will be tracked and if the venture proves successful they will likely be used in future campaigns and releases.
