AR Marketing: M-commerce comes in many forms

Valpak Augmented Advertising

More and more businesses are using mobile advertising and marketing to reach on the go consumers. Now, we can add one more; Valpak. Best known for the envelopes full of coupons they mail out to people; now they have a mobile, augmented reality application.

Valpak is a part of Cox Target Media. Target Media works with customers to develop innovative advertising placement strategies. Target Media uses media evaluation and analysis, detailed market and media research and strategic media planning and placement.

Valpak uses the new application to interact with the user, through augmented reality. The user can point their phones at nearby businesses, and any merchants offering coupons or discount deals will have a pop-up appear.  The pop-up coupons are downloadable to the phone. There will also be links to allow the customer to sign up for other deals and discounts from the merchants store.

Many other merchants and businesses are joining the mobile advertising ranks. The U.S. will spend around one billion dollars this year on mobile marketing strategies. Companies are expanding out to offer social media marketing plans, text plans, VoiP, and several other business marketing strategies. QR Codes and Near Field Communications are beginning to emerge in the markets also.

Many marketers are pushing for more development of mobile websites. Businesses are finding that having a mobile website can increase sales also. However, most small business owners opt to stay with less expensive marketing options for now; QR Codes are one of those methods can that can gain a merchant wide exposure, and is relatively inexpensive to develop.
