Aegis Media buys stake in TigerSpike for $11 million

Augmented reality mobile marketing

Mobile Commerce Industry
The Aegis Group media buying and marketing division, Aegis Media, is giving its mobile activity and assets a significant boost by taking up a minority stake of an undisclosed size in TigerSpike.

The $11 million purchase was made into the app developer for blue-chip companies such as News Corp., Telegraph Media Group, The Economist, and Mail Online. TigerSpike is also a provider of mobile media services for internationally recognized brand names.

Though TigerSpike is a Sydney-based, it also has offices in New York and London, with intentions to establish themselves in other locations, especially in Asia.

The investment made by Aegis Media into TigerSpike is based on the significant potential it currently holds in market growth. TigerSpike clients already using the organization’s “Phoenix” platform for their app development and to offer additional mobile marketing products include Pepsi, Diageo, AutoTrader, and Woolworths.

This also provides Aegis Media with an easy partnership in terms of offering their own clients with mobile marketing and app development services.

While TigerSpike functions in a variety of mobile platforms and devices, the majority of its publishing customers have been concentrating on forms for tablets. According to EMEA MD Nic Newman stated that a user’s average publishing app usage time was between 30 and 34 minutes long. This is five times more than the amount of time that users spend on the actual websites of the publishers.

This move by Aegis Media with TigerSpike is considered to be indicative of the way that things are progressing in the future. The true value may be found in advertising, not in publishing by itself.
