Mobile marketing may be something the East has had for several years now, but it is a growing trend for businesses in the West. More companies are looking to take advantage of the growing use of smart phones and other smart devices, instituting marketing campaigns geared at engaging a new generation of tech-savvy consumers. QR codes play a fundamental – indeed, all encompassing – role in mobile marketing. QR codes have already been used in a number of innovative campaigns, the most impressive of which coming from the culinary industry.

Wilton Enterprises, a world famous cake design and food crafting company, has introduced QR codes to be featured on in-store displays and on the packaging of the new Punch. Cut. Decorate program.

When scanned, the codes resolve to a mobile website where buyers can activate the program, which allows them to decorate their own cakes. Also, shoppers will be lead to how to videos, learn new cake ideas along with recieiving product reviews and information by engaging while also inspiring cake decorators.

The idea to incorporate the latest trend in mobile marketing came as the company began to reform their decorating method, according to executive vice president Eric Erwin. “More and more of our consumers are accessing Wilton content through mobile devices,” he notes. “It was a simple decision to leverage the technology to start making our services available directly to them.”

By using the codes, customers will also be able to interact with one another online, forming something of a social network through Wilton’s mobile website.

The QR codes will begin appearing on packaging and in-store displays by May. For more information visit them at  http://www.wilton.com/pcd
